Wolf Creek 2 Horror Movie Review

The outback once more becomes a place of horror as another unwitting tourist becomes the prey for crazed, serial-killing pig-hunter Mick Taylor.

Wolf Creek 2 Horror Movie Review

Review

Wolf Creek 2 opens with Mick, once again played with aplomb by the excellent John Jarrett (Django Unchained), taking down two traffic cops. It serves only to re-introduce Mick, and remind us of the sheer brutality that was established by the serial killer in the first film. The opening credits hit, and then meet the rest of the victims. Sorry... cast. I mean cast.

Starring Ryan Corr (Where the Wild Things Are), Shannon Ashlyn (Dripping in Chocolate), and Philippe Klaus (Thicker Than Water) the film veers in a different direction to the first. The first was set in a single location - Mick's farm - where he takes a group of young people to pieces. Kind of literally. This movie plays more of a road movie. It's more The Hitcher than Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Writer / director Greg McLean (The Belko Experiment) does fantastic work with keeping the feel of the first film (which he also wrote and directed), however, even with the change of scenery. It ramps up the gore a little and deepens the character of Mick.

And it's good. The victims run a relay race, passing the baton between them for who is next in the firing line. It makes for a fun film, it's fast paced, and crosses multiple locations, but you get little time to become related to the protagonists. It's certainly a film where the antagonist is the star.

The third act of the movie is stand out. An unexpected departure from the rest of the film, the finale adds a great deal to the mthology of the character, it ties everything together well, if differently.

A must see for those with a strong stomach.
