MicroReview: Bone Tomahawk (2015)

Synopsis

In the dying days of the old west, an elderly sheriff and his posse set out to rescue their town's doctor from cannibalistic cave dwellers.

Review

With a superb cast led by Kurt Russell (The Thing), no less, comes a genre mash up to rule them all. Bone Tomahawk is both western adventure and horror.

Written and directed with showstopping style by S. Craig Zahler (Brawl in Cell Block 99) with a cast including everyone from Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) to Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses), Bone is a slow burn from the start. Some of the town folk of peaceful Bright Hope have been kidnapped and taken into the hills by a group of known cannibals.

What follows is a trip to hell.

Both beautifully shot and brutally violent, this is a surefire hit for anyone who loves horror - if you don't, but you're a western fan, you may be unpleasantly surprised.

An Outstanding watch.
