After her mother's mysterious death, Nica begins to suspect that the talking, red-haired doll her visiting niece has been playing with may be the key to recent bloodshed and chaos.

Nearly a decade after the last Child's Play film, low budget horror Curse of Chucky attempts to re-invigorate the franchise. With a single shooting location - the old dark house, of course - Curse does what it can, with very little to begin with. Writer / director Don Mancini (who does nothing, apparently, but live and breathe Chucky films) has created an okay film. The writing is fine, apart from trying to tie the family in this film to Charles Lee Ray pre-Chucky doll possession. It's a misstep. The direction is pretty solid, and goes back to the roots of the franchise, doing away with much of the silliness of the films post Child's Play moniker.The cast do a surprisingly good job given the experience in play. Most of the players have little to their name with big name A Martinez (Longmire) having a small role, protagonist Nica portrayed by Fiona Dourif (The Blacklist) and of course the return of Brad Dourif (Alien: Resurrection).
Sadly it's just okay, and is largely forgettable only five minutes after the credits have run - I still remember Child's Play vividly, thirty years on. It's watchable, and there is little wrong with it, per se - but certainly only recommended for slasher fans.
