Two young couples backpacking through Ireland discover that one of Ireland's most famous legends is a terrifying reality.
Review
It's kind of hard to know what to make of this particular movie. It's supposed to be a reboot / prequel to the Warwick Davis
Leprechaun movies of the 90s' / 2K's...and it's not. It's a monster movie, yes, but it just doesn't have a leprechaun in it. Which is weird.
I don't know who to blame for the presentation of the film - director Zach Lipovsky may be to blame, or the editor, cinematographer...I don't know. It's a quick cut, choppy blurry mess for the large part. The writing is problematic - as I say, there is no lep in it - but I can live with that for a good film. This isn't. None of it makes any real sense - character motivations are nonsensical, the antagonists don't know what they are doing, and even the actions of the lep don't hold together.
The acting isn't great - maybe try casting people actually from Ireland? - and even Dead Celluloid favorite Brendan Fletcher (13 Eerie) has little to work with.
The biggest flaw that the film stumbles on is the
idea. This is a generic monster movie, which is no bad thing, and it's cert 18 - it should be a gorefest! And it's not. Weirdly, watching it, I assumed it was PG-13. If it were, it may gave made some more money back. It even had a theatrical release.
Four generic 'teens' gets chased about for 90 minutes by a generic faceless monster. Few kills. Little plot. Zero scares.
Poor.
