Director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) ambles his way through Candyman II with a film that has a story that was apparently written by Clive Barker. I can only assume it was based loosely on an "idea in passing". Having all the spark of a latter Hellraiser DTV sequel, barely featuring Tony Todd in the titular role, the premise of the film could very well have been written with any supernatural killer in mind.Hellraiser: Farewell to the Flesh, anyone?
Lest to say it is not a good film. Taking the lead is Kelly Rowan (The O.C.) whose father was killed by Mr. C many years ago. The performance is okay, but not strong enough to hold a film up. Veronica Cartwright (Alien) has a small role, and is by far the best actor in the film. Todd is not on screen long enough to matter - again reminding me of hellish churned out DTV sequels.
Sadly, it's not scary, and suffers from being extremely bland, if not boring. And I don't think that's Tony Todd on the cover. Just saying.
One to avoid.
