Starring Jibrail Nantambu, Halloween (2018) splits the Halloween timeline (again), this time following on from the first film of the series, Halloween (1978). Nantambu carries the film on inexperienced, but broad shoulders, as Julian, a young man with a smart mouth - but quicker wit. Probably the most likable and certainly relatable character in the film, if Nantambu can keep this sort of screen presence up, he'll be a star.James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle do a good job of being Myers, even if it is a little jarring to see quite this much of him without the mask. Jamie Lee Curtis is back as Laurie Strode and good, if not a little underused perhaps. Judy Greer is a highlight as Strode's daughter. I did feel that the "teen" half of the cast were left wanting, and I was eagerly looking to see them killed.
All in it's a solid Halloween film, but you'll take little else from it. It's written well, and it looks and feels like a Halloween film. It's better than most of the sequels, for sure, and a good platform for my protagonist, Julian. Hero.
