A Cure for Wellness Horror Movie Review

A Cure for Wellness Horror Movie ReviewI'll put this straight on the table: Gore Verbinski's A Cure for Wellness is not going to be for everyone.  Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) stars as Lockhart - a young wannabe hot shot - who attends a bizarre, well, mental asylum, to find his boss who has decided to move there. When he arrives all weirdness abounds, compounded by a great performance from Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery) as the good doctor in charge.

While the story is intriguing, taking a lot from the likes of Shutter Island, to say it is slow burn is an understatement. Rolling in at around two and a half hours, there is only so much "mystery" you can stomach with no answers. And when the final act finally arrives, the answers are...interesting, to say the least.

After two solid hours of mind bending psychological weirdness, the film devolves on the flip of a coin into a graphic, murder/rape monster movie. In truth, it's so far out of left field, it's a little distasteful.

Certainly an odd affair.
