Vampire Blood Horror Movie ReviewAlso known as Nocturna, Vampire Blood was something I really wanted to like. Written and directed by Buz Alexander (debut) there is a lot going for it, plot-wise. Vamps live in seclusion away from the general populous, keeping villains locked up as their personal blood bank. When two detectives get caught up in the middle of a vampire feud all Hell breaks loose. It's ripe action horror for the picking, and so much of it actually worked. Cast in the lead is Mike Doyle (The Invitation), as worn detective Ganet, and he holds the film up well. He is an experienced actor, the right age, a good look for the part. Honestly, most of the casting was spot on. My personal casting gripe was Billy Blair (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) who hammed it up and chewed so much scenery I thought he was from a different film.

But sadly it feels too much like a DTV movie, or worse still, TV show pilot that never made it. The scares are just not there. There is style to the vampires, but it's not played on. It seems...watered down.

I would lay the majority of the problems on Alexander's direction, but I felt that there was something below the surface that I'm not privy too. Maybe it was a TV pilot?

Either way, it's okay. Hardcore vampire fans won't get much from it, neither will the gore hounds, but it is...okay.
