Hit and Run (2009)

Mary Murdock, a college student, thinks she's hit and killed a cat with her car driving home drunk from a party. She is horrified beyond words when she gets home and discovers a man's nearly dead body impaled on the bumper of her Jeep. Terrified and irrational, Mary is faced with a series of decisions that determine her fate.

Review

This is one of those films. I went in blind, and what I got was, well, odd. The synopsis above says it all really. Yes, she hits a dude with her jeep and drives home with him impaled to the front of the car, parks in the garage, and goes indoors, drinks, goes to bed. It's not until she is awakened in the early hours of the morning does she find the body.

Probably not the sort of person you want doing an observation test.

What follows is a small budget I know What You Did Last Summer esque slasher effort. It's a little odd in places, and there really is nothing to hate about it. It is remarkably plot light, which really is no bad thing with a film like this. Obviously the...protagonist?...makes a good number of really bad decisions, and is overall pretty unlikeable. Is that a problem? The film clearly wants us to root for the woman, and , no, it doesn't affect the enjoyment of the film.

It's plenty gory, and there are some decent solid effects in play. The direction is good, as is the cinematography.  Laura Breckenridge (Amusement) is the star, and I was somewhat surprised to see that she has only bumbled along in TV work since. She's pretty decent in the role and could have run the gauntlet of the prevalent PG-13 horror circuit with ease. Support comes from Kevin Corrigan (Pineapple Express) and Christopher Shand (Return to Sleepaway Camp) - it's a small cast - and they're good. It's director Enda McCallion's last credited work.

Seems like it killed most people's career who worked on it.

It's not that bad.

It worth putting the time in and watching, a fairly well produced slasher, with few scares, but some decent horror.
