Deadly Shores (2018)

This gripping thriller follows Anna who moves to a remote island as the new bride of a famous mystery writer. Once there, she uncovers secrets about her new husband's dead former wife and fears she may be the next victim.

Review

I'll preface this with I think. I think this is a Lifetime Movie. I think this is a retelling of Rebecca. With that out of the way, is it any good? Sold as a 'gripping thriller', Deadly Shores is definitely more along the lines of cozy mystery. That said, if it had been advertised as such I likely wouldn't have watched it, and I'm not sorry I did.

The writing is what you would expect from this sort of TV movie, it services the plot, and it's not too overblown, sticking I'm sure to a specific runtime. The direction is the same, it is serviceable and inoffensive. So hats off to director Fred Olen Ray, and to whoever wrote it...strangely they are not credited on IMDB. Olen Ray has perhaps the best back catalog on the site however, with over 150 directorial credits with everything from Seagal's God awful Sniper: Special Ops, to the insta-classic, 2006's Ghost in a Teeny Bikini.

The film stars Carly Schroeder (Firewall) in her final appearance before quitting acting (at the date of writing). She is solid, holds the film up well, and carries it with relative ease.

All in, there is little more to say about it. It's a warm sort of murder mystery. It's not scary, and there is no gore. It's watchable, and probably good for what it is.
