Big fan of V/H/S and V/H/S 2. Just thought I'd get that out the way. This was going to be an episode of The Catacombs, but I've left it too long, so I'll just put the highlights here.
An anthology movie, Viral has a wraparound and three segments. On this occasion and unlike most anthology movies the segments are not fed to the viewer through the wraparound, they just sort of...start. Which is odd, but whatever. The wraparound is about whatever the synopsis above says it's about - it's largely convoluted, makes little sense, and is pointless. But hey, it's just a wraparound, right?
Segment one is
Dante the Great. First off, it’s not so much found footage. It’s presented in a documentary style. But fine. Whatever. Dante the Great is a rubbish illusionist who finds Houdini’s cloak, which gives him the power of bad green screen. There's a great deal of CG blood and gore, which isn't presented well, and the acting is pretty shocking. It's sort of, "okay?", I suppose.
The second is
Parallel Monsters. By far the best part of the film - at lease to start with - the segment gives us a basement scientist creating a portal into a parallel dimension. Sadly the name of the segment sort of gives away the shocking conclusion, so rather than change the name the film makers made penis monsters or something. I don't know. I watched it and I still don't know. The effects and acting are pretty good, it
is found footage, and the whole is pretty good until it doesn't mean anything anymore and things just happen.
The third segment is Bonestorm, and it's an abomination. A group of skateboarders with Go-Pro's fight with zombies? Cultists? I don't know. It's just a pile of shots that felt like it was made by teenagers for a school project. Forgive me if that sounds harsh.
Actually don't.
Parallel Monsters was written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo (TimeCrimes) who deserved much better than this. The wraparound had three (!) writers created. Aaron Moorhead, director of Bonestorm should be ashamed.
If it weren't for Parallel Monsters, franchise killer "Viral" would have joined the one star club.

Using a gently soaked face towel should do the trick. The water should be hot, but not so hot that it's painful to apply to your face. https://tutuappx.com/
ReplyDeleteWashing your face is a remarkably effective way to clear up your skin. If you have dirt and bacteria in your skin, hot water will open your pores, making it easier to clean the gunk out. Vidmate
